CONGRATULATIONS ANGELO!
The Staff of ESSMC wishes to congratulate Angelo on his induction
into the
East Boros Hall of Fame on Thursday October 13, 2005. The article below
appeared in the Gateway Newspaper.
Angelo Tardio began his career as a student athletic
trainer at the
University of Pittsburgh from 1971 to 1974. He received his Bachelor
of
Arts degree in health and physical education from West Liberty State
College in 1978.
He was a physcial education teacher and athletic
trainer at East
Allegheny High School and retured to the University Pittsburgh to
receive his Bachelor of Science degree in physical therapy in 1986.
As a physical therapy student, Tardio provided
athletic trainer
services to East Suburban Sports Medicine Center and Churchill, Norwin
and Plum high schools.
He was a physical therapist and coordinator
of the Sports Medicine
Center at St. Margarets Memorial Hospital from 1986 to 1990, providing
physical therapy services to Fox Chapel, Shaler and Riverview high
schools.
In 1990, Tardio joined East Suburban Sports
Medicine Center and
presently provides physical therapy services at the Penn Hills office.
He continues to serve as an athletic trainer
for Riverview and Plum
and supervises athletic trainer services for Gateway, Plum, Riverview,
Penn Hills, Norwin and Penn-Trafford high schools.
Tardio is the co-founder of the Tim Kerin Memorial
Scholarship at
the University of Pittsburgh and the Wagner Family Charities. He is
a
member of the sports and orthopedic section of the American Physical
Therapy Association and the National Athletic Trainers Association.
He resides in Plum Boro with his wife of 25
years, Rosemary, and
children Nicole and Michael.

Congratulations
to Larry Cooper, our colleague and Head Athletic Trainer at Penn-Trafford
High School, for being awarded the Pennsylvania Athletic Trainers Society
(PATS) Service Award for 2005. The award is given to an individual
that has dedicated time and effort to benefit the membership and promote
the profession of athletic training in the commonwealth. Larry has
been at Penn-Trafford for 15 years and he has been a certified athletic
trainer for 22 years. Nice work Larry!

Athletic Trainer Workshop
Once again ESSMC is offering a Student Athletic Trainer workshop to area high
school students. This is the 14th such workshop. Instruction takes place at Penn
Trafford High School.
$40 registration includes three days of instruction, complimentary lunch daily,
t-shirt and certificate of attendance. Topics covered include anatomy, protective
taping, and injury recognition/management. Contact Larry Cooper, ATC, Workshop

Healthy 4 Life Expo
For
the third year, we are sponsoring the Health and Fitness Expo at Penn Trafford
High School on Saturday July 23rd from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM. The focus of
our booth is on improving general fitness for children and adults through
education. Lori Bemesderfer, PT and Jen Galando, ATC will be available
to field questions and to perform flexibility assessments.

Exciting News!
We are excited to announce that we are opening another office in the Plum/Monroeville area. The building is up and construction is on its way. We plan to open the office May 2005. The location of the office building is off of Route 286 behind McDade's restaurant. Matthew Gatesman, MPT, ATC will be heading that office. Matt has been with us for 18 years and also assists with Athletic Training services for Plum High School. We look forward to serving you at this location or at any of our other five locations.
