Mark Sirkoch 2006 John H. Lindblad Scholarship Winner

The John H. Lindblad Scholarship is presented each year to a student in Plum School District in recognition of achievements both in the classroom and on the athletic field. John Lindblad was the team physician at Plum High School for more than 20 years. Dr Lindblad advocated for the team approach to provide more comprehensive sports medicine care. This award has been presented since 1998.

This year’s recipient is Mark Sirkoch. Mark has been a competitive swimmer since age 9. He was this year’s team captain and maintains a 3.9 grade point average. Mark has volunteered at the Western Pennsylvania Hospital for the last three summers. His interest in medicine was kindled by a visit to our Penn Hills office. He plans to attend Washington and Jefferson College this fall.

NATA News Clarification February Issue Letters to the Editor

Mr. Willson could not be more offbase with his comments. To think that my letter was founded by my membership in the PPTA as an attack on the NATA is preposterous. As my letter stated, my partners and I have been committed to the athletic training profession for over 20 years and have fought similar battles to what Mr. Wilson references, particularly with our local competition, to bring respect and fair compensation to those that deserve it.

I love being on the athletic field and I would never imply that we are there to "tape and run water." We all have skills that no other health care provider possesses and we all need to make that more well known. Make no mistake- my intentions are founded on preserving and strengthening our profession, and I would never do anything to jeopardize the athletic training profession or the NATA.

With sincere regards,

John E. Bonaroti, PT, ATC
